The One Ton Marathon: Partnering with Toyota

As you all probably know by now, on Saturday 11th May I’ll be completing a full 26.2 mile marathon whilst dragging a car behind me.  And what better brand to work with than Toyota? I’m SUPER excited to be partnering with them on this and appreciate the work they are putting in to get me the perfect car!

Here’s a 4 step breakdown of what happens next before the big day.

Step 1/4:

Assess their portfolio to find the perfect car

Our guy at Toyota has narrowed it down to the Yaris or the Aygo.

Step 2/4:

The official weigh-ins

Once we’ve got our finalists, we need to get the exact weight certificates to ensure that the car is officially over one ton in weight.

Step 3/4:

Insuring my team

To complete this challenge I need the engine to be running, the gear to be in neutral and a driver to steer.  With the challenge estimated at 16 hours for completion I need at least 3 people to be insured on the car, who will be working in shifts to sit behind the wheel.  None of this would be possible without my amazing support team who have helped me throughout the training process - we’ve racked up a whopping 76 miles!! So thank-you thank-you thank-you to my Mum and Dad, my brother, Owain and my cousin, Louise. #DreamTeam I owe you guys one!

Step 4/4:

We do 1 mile at a time along a straight piece of road, I then unhook my harness and fuel myself up whilst the driver turns the car around and then switches the engine off for around 5-10 minutes.  With the engine running for a total of 16 hours we estimate a need for 9 litres of fuel, which in turn weighs in at 2 gallons… like I don’t have enough to pull!

Thanks for following my progress as always!  For further reading:
